The largest country in South America
Brazil is the largest country in South America and has a long Atlantic coastline. It borders every South American country except Chile and Ecuador, stretching from the equator to south of the Tropic of Capricorn. Rainforest, grassland, wetlands, dry country and plateaus all fit within its borders.

Northern Brazil contains much of the Amazon basin, where the Amazon River and its tributaries carry enormous amounts of water through tropical forest. Rivers serve as routes for communities as well as habitats. The Amazon crosses national borders, but a large part of this vast natural region lies within Brazil.

Brazil is more than the Amazon. Plateaus cover much of the centre and southeast, while the Pantanal in the southwest becomes one of the world's great seasonal wetlands.
