At the southeastern edge of Arabia
Oman occupies the southeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula, facing the Gulf of Oman in the north and the Arabian Sea to the east and south. Muscat sits on the northern coast between sea and mountains. The long shoreline supports ports and fishing at a maritime crossroads linking Africa, Asia and the Middle East.

The Hajar Mountains curve across northern Oman, separating the coastal plain from the dry interior. They include Jabal Shams, the country's highest peak, and cooler uplands.
